About the server

A modded world built like a journey.

Iron & Aether is a long-form progression server about watching a simple settlement become a mechanical empire, an arcane research center, and eventually something that combines both.

The idea

Not a kitchen-sink pack with a quest book taped on top.

Every major system should feed into the next. Early machines stay useful, magic expands what you can build, and late-game industry rewards everything you learned before it.

The goal is a server where progression has a rhythm. There are intense stretches of discovery and advancement, followed by deliberate periods where you can build, explore, trade, help other players, or simply make your corner of the world feel like home.

Core pillars

What makes Iron & Aether different.

The server is being designed around continuity. Every era should feel distinct without making the previous one irrelevant.

01

A world that advances with you

Iron & Aether is built around eras rather than a pile of unrelated mods. You begin with survival, infrastructure, and mechanical engineering, then unlock increasingly strange and powerful systems as the world opens up.

02

Machines that do not become obsolete

Early automation is meant to remain part of your base. Later magic and industry are designed to extend those systems, not make you tear them down and start over every chapter.

03

Magic as discovery, not a side menu

The arcane phase centers on research, rituals, rare materials, and celestial discovery. Thaumcraft and Astral Sorcery are planned as major pillars as their ports are integrated into the pack.

04

Endgame built for ambition

The final era is about scale: advanced power, high-throughput production, enormous factories, difficult projects, and goals that feel more like building a civilization than finishing a checklist.

How the server is meant to feel

A world with momentum, mystery, and room to settle in.

Iron & Aether is being shaped as a persistent multiplayer world rather than a short-lived modpack sprint.

WORLD

Persistent settlements

A persistent multiplayer world meant to develop over time through settlements, factories, observatories, laboratories, trade, transport networks, and large community projects.

PACING

Progression in waves

Progression comes in waves. Major discoveries are followed by quieter stretches for building, exploration, experimentation, and establishing yourself before the next era opens.

ARCANA

Magic you uncover

Magic is treated as a discovery layer woven into the world, with research, rituals, rare materials, celestial systems, and planned Thaumcraft and Astral Sorcery progression.

INDUSTRY

Factories that evolve

Mechanical engineering forms the early backbone, then grows into cross-era automation and eventually advanced, high-throughput industry rather than being discarded for the next mod.

The gameplay loop

Every step feeds the next.

Progression is less about racing through quest chapters and more about building a world that becomes increasingly capable.

01

Explore

Find resources, structures, discoveries, and the next clue that pushes your progression forward.

02

Build

Turn those discoveries into a home, workshop, factory, observatory, laboratory, or shared settlement.

03

Automate

Replace repetitive gathering with systems you designed and improve them instead of abandoning them.

04

Research

Unlock new technologies and arcane disciplines through progression rather than having everything available on day one.

05

Expand

Use the tools from one era to solve larger problems in the next, then scale up with the rest of the server.

Current build target

Built for a long-term 1.21.1 NeoForge world.

The pack is still under active development, so exact mod integrations can change while progression is being tested and balanced. The identity will not: machines first, arcana later, and a final era where both disciplines converge.
